Consolation By James Kangas


On the day after the election

Patty went down to our coffee shop

where Ken, the owner, had brought in

a bottle of bourbon for those

who needed it, he said. Patty had

a couple of slugs for her anxiety

and then a couple of espressos

to get her day moving towards 

something tangible, something 

beyond our big fat burst balloon.
