"The King's Highway" by Hex'm J'ai

It's no secret
That the
"Electric City"
Has blown a few
Bulbs

A Martian
Anthropologist
Watching
Observing.....

At 1am
Midtown still
Maintains a
Current
A soft
Crackle
A thready
Pulse
Beneath
The sidewalk
Cracks
Behind the
Vacant
Store fronts
Within
The rubble of
Stately
Structures
Sans their
Glory

This town has
Been twice
Fucked
By the fires of
Iraquois
And
Quebecoise
And the
Neglect
Of our
"Patrons"

Some say
This town is
"The end of
The road"
We say
"You need a
Map"

At 1am
Street
Phantoms
Flicker and flit
Through mute
Half darkness
Backyard
Gardens
Gestate
Exotic
Harvests
With West Indian
Whispers

On Sundays
There's "Church"
For Christian
And Heathen
Alike
As an aged
DJ
Mixes
James Brown
Miles Davis
And
Run DMC
For the
Laundry
Walk
Commute

There is a man
Who will
Teach you
How to
Break down
A bird
With a
Proper
Machete
And feed you
Lamb and
Brandy

There are
Green markets
Lattes, croissants,
Hummus and
Falcons
Cemeteries
Rife with
Flora and fauna
True
Ressurrection
As energy is
Converted
There are
Libraries
Containing
The media of
Centuries
There are
Buffets
With sushi
Markets of
Guyanese
Produce
Puerto Rican
Sound scapes
And white boy
Whiskey
There are
Churches,
Temples,
Mosques
And labs
All honing a
Power
Atomic

Here art lives
With theatre,
Film,
Avant-pop
Sensation
And
Poetry
Just crack
The
Eyes
Open
Ears and
Thrust a
Tongue

And we have
All of the
Gods
This is their home
Their ramshackle
Olympus
As they witness
The fallen
With wings of
Char and tatter
Transmute refuse
Into
Light

So when you reach
"The end of the road"
We'll offer you
Food, art, poetry and
Friendship
But don't fuck with
Us
We have the
Current
We have the
Gods
And you'll make
A lovely
Shrub

The anthropologist
Returns home and mutters
"They'll do just fine..."
