Land Grab. by Ryan Quinn Flanagan

He lived upstairs above the bar
and I thought, how do land a gig
like that?

Yes it is noisy, but everything is noisy.
There are fires, but there are always fires.
Some of them out in forests where no one lives.
Whole hectares, whatever they are.

And being sloshed during monsoon season,
I asked the bartender if the guy
that owned the place
was renting.

He laughed
and walked off.

Throwing a stained towel over
his shoulder.

So that I knew public speaking
was not his thing
and that I would have to inquire
someplace else.
