Ebony By Ian Lewis Copestick

Last night
Ebony
the beautiful
little cat I've
had for over
17 years,
passed away.

I was out, in my
back garden
early this morning
digging a grave
for her.

As I was there
digging, I thought
of all the things
that I, and Karen,
my late partner put
the little sweetheart
through.

I suppose that
our pets were
our children
substitutes.

We took her to
the park.
We put her on
the swings, and
the slide.

She wasn't impressed.

But, she loved us
still.

I'll love her always.
