Five Thousand For A Poem by Ian Lewis Copestick

Last night I saw an advert
For a poetry contest
And it said the prize
Was cash, #5000.
Naturally I got excited,
Here was a chance to
Make some money
From my writing and
Serious money at that.
I was warming up my muse
Getting ready to
Pound the page.
Then I noticed
It was Nigerian currency
I checked it out on Google
And 5000 works out as
£11:50. That brought
Me back down to earth.
I know that it's not
About the money
But
Now I'm not quite
So excited.
