I have walked the seedy streets of this global city
And sat in the porch of a church
Listening to the bells, the chimes captured in an echo
That would not fade.
I have watched souls exchanged for hard cash
And a gram
Of what wont kill you will make you stronger.
And the nomadic wind passing through has left me
With a vision
Of smokey camp fires and Romany songs, the laboured
Breath of an accordion
And bare foot gypsy girls dancing by the light
Of the flames.
I have seen my reflection in the window of another mans eyes,
Seen there the debris of collapsed horizons
And shards of shattered dreams floating across the lakes and
Rivers of this island kingdom.
I've been there, I've seen it and heard it all without moving
From my chair
Where I sit slumped in a stupor of self medication, in this sinister
Nether world of self isolation.
