the moth will break open and sing -for new orleans. by Paul Koniecki

flip a coin
pay a man to write a poem

walk down frenchmen street to the
spotted cat

pick up a purple drink
lie down on the three o'clock

in the morning cold cement
piece of time held forever

on a cloudless night
and the shadow

of a trellised wall

throws
a thousand diamond squares

across the record of
your face

down the block you yelled
whatchyou want

at the winos
and the moon

whatchyou want

two arms out
like a pushcart

distant lots
pieces of a broken bottle

and the boys
who left you

or who
you should have left too soon

Paul Koniecki lives and writes poetry in Dallas, Texas. His poems appear in Richard Bailey’s movie, “One of the Rough”. He was a featured poet in Ireland at the Blackwater Poetry Festival and he co-facilitates the Poetry/Love revolution Meet Me With Curiosity at Klyde Warren Park.
