In the Meantime By Gabriel Bates

Drinking espresso

and smoking too many cigarettes,

I sit and think about

the end of the world.

Will it be with a whimper,

like Eliot said?

Or will it be like

one of those post-apocalyptic movies,

everyone scraping by to survive?

I'm not sure.

But until then,

I'll light another cigarette

and wait.
