Chattered Dreams. by Tony Pena

Classic rock radio riffs fade
as a marijuana haze swaps
shade with the evening fog.
The grain alcohol finally bottoming
out the high spirits of the sorority
sisters leaving the window open
for the famished bat boys in black
to flick bedbugs off golden goose
down pillows and search for pulses
like wannabe Bela Lugosis before
gliding arid tongues over the thin
skinned necks of fallen vestal
virgins as the newly minted
vixens snore out wild dreams
of bare chested Fabios pulling
reins on majestic white stallions.

But poor circulation leads to
cold feet and once your toes
go numb your entire being
shakes like a bad case of the DTs.
The fangs stutter like cheap
wind up chattering teeth toys
until the ruckus wakes up
the fillies who ,upon finding
their erotic dream climaxing well
short of great expectations, beat
on the bats with arms like brooms
pounding the shit out of Persian
rugs till a vampire’s bones crumble
into sand as Kansas drones on
in the dark with yet another mind
numbing verse of dust in the wind.

Liquid Love. by Linda Imbler

Her fireside
tears do not help warm her cold heart.
Wood turns to ash
as does their dead love.
So many years ago,
before the drink took hold,
all tears were honest,
as were her words.
They no longer drown in each other’s eyes.
She now only drowns in the glass.

Linda Imbler is an internationally published poet.  Her poetry collections include “Big Questions, Little Sleep,”  “Lost and Found,” and “The Sea’s Secret Song.”
She is a Kansas-based Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net Nominee.  Linda’s poetry and a listing of publications can be found at lindaspoetryblog.blogspot.com.

Outside the bathroom window by. Mike Zone

The man in the yellow hat
stares down his rusted toilet
swirling- pondering death
he knows better
having chances after chance
to shuffle the mortal coil
while still a fugitive
poisoning poets
pointing murderers to friends
once upon a time dissidence meant resistance
instead of a bargaining chip for dying lives
outwardly scarred and internally deformed
awaits the butcher’s assistant, strumming his blue guitar
soon she will be dead like her mother, sister, father
(an old country woe)
shuts his blinds
without country nor home
next time he’ll use the service station bathroom
across the street- it’s less haunted
it’s inherited
the owner is royalty

Mike Zone is the author of Void Beneath the Skin, Fellow Passengers: Pubic Transit Poetry, Meditations & Musings and Better than the Movies: 4 Screenplays. Wayward Wordsmith. by Ashley Cooke

Closing his eyes
he places his fingers on the strings
strumming the guitar
singing every word
that comes to mind

He finishes and opens his eyes
hoping that some had met his
and understood something
but everyone is focused on their drinks
or lost in a quiet conversation

His mouth pressed against the microphone
like it was her lips
and it reminded him of home
how she sat and listened for hours
hearing every word within him

He left the bar
with a few tips in hand
but he learned more from their silence
starting up the pickup truck
finally headed in a direction he knew.

Ashley Cooke is a creative writing major attending Long Beach City College. She is from Long Beach, CA. She works at a hospital and at a music venue. She is currently working on her first poetry collection.

3:19am. by Alyssa Trivett

The air
in the house encircles.
I heard one
crash-boom-bang cat trill
and nooks and crannies
hooking through the night
in odd corners in the house,
round-the-clock increments,
off-hours and such.

Alyssa Trivett is a wandering soul from the Midwest. When not working two jobs, she listens to music, chirps down coffee, and scrawls lines on the back of gas station receipts. Her work has appeared recently at In Between Hangovers, The Penwood Review, and Apricity Magazine.

Betrayal. by Jesse Lynn Rucilez

Fireflies at dusk,
Searching, wandering,
Figure-eights and loop-de-loops beneath the stars,
Camp fires, porch lights, match flames,
So many sources of radiance,
All dangerous, no solace,
Yet they’re hopelessly drawn,
Betrayed at birth,
By genus, species,
And God…
Butterflies at dawn,
Floating, dancing,
Figure eights and loop-de-loops beneath the rising sun,
Glimmering chrome, shiny glass, sparkling pavement,
So many places to settle,
None of them safe,
Yet they’re hopelessly drawn,
Betrayed at birth,
By genus, species,
And God…
This poem, “Betrayal,” is about everything, and about nothing at all. I have dedicated it to my two kid sisters, Julie and Madelyn. Jules, the firefly. Little Maddy, the butterfly. I love them with all my heart, and I have to find a way to protect them. To keep them from having to deal with anything like what I’ve gone through. I wish I could do it with my poetry…but that’s just not enough.
I have no idea what’s gonna happen to me. This nightmare just keeps repeating itself. But sooner or later, it, like all nightmares, has to end! And what I absolutely DO NOT want to happen is for the end of my nightmare to become the start for one or both of theirs.
Because, no matter what happens to me, Jules and Maddy must be allowed to live the way I never got to. They must remain clean and free, and I’m the only person who can make that happen.
God, I just wish I knew what to do…
(P.S.—This will be the last poem I ever write.)

Le Club du Mal is the story of adult film star, Angelique du Mal. As a major player in the adult film industry and owner of an erotic nightclub, Angelique challenges society’s notions of not only love and sex, but also what it means to be successful. Her attitude is no-holds-barred, yet she remains grounded and loyal to family. Over the course of a day, Angelique will struggle with the demands of being both boss and mentor to a stable of exotic dancers, cope with the memory of a sister who committed suicide, and confront the man who nearly ruined everything: her father. And all of this while celebrating her twenty-ninth birthday. Dying For Last Call. by Opalina Salas

Dying for last call
Arm over your shoulder
Head down
Cigarette lit

The dim bulb light
Housefly buzz
Ceramic sink rust
Water drip

Thick thighs
Torn nylons
Ass down
And out

Dying for a wakeup call
Bitter words
For dried up coffee grounds
Tumbled ash trays

This movie review
Of life
Skips and jumps
Bumps until its skittering end.

It’s Jarmusch
Pasolini, Kurosawa
Jodorowsky and Goddard
Dying for a blank wall
To throw shade on.

It’s a dusty guitar
Sitting in a corner
Unswept rug
rusty mail slot door

Dying for a cold night
Ice crack skull
Your hand into fist
Pressing me down

Dying for last call
